Nothing inspired my creative thought like swags. The way they fall, their twists and turns - the fascinating shadow lines. Swags were one of my inspirations for creating DesignerSketchbook, so everyone who wanted could explore the possibilities of creative thought.
In my career as a product designer I have created 1000`s of variations so you can imagine that I have given great thought to the subject of creating cheer with swags. Here is what I think. To create bright, fresh and healthy designers, one starts by meditating on what make us happy. The colors that soothe, the feelings that inspire, the joy of accomplishment. If you want to feel rich, create rich, if you want to feel cozy, create cozy. Our space is our own and our thoughts are not bound by convention. Putting these thoughts into our designs is like loving our work in a tangible way.
Here are several home in California that have cheerful influence created by the design work of people who love swags.
Very entertaining
Rich fabrics against white walls and crystal. Wrought iron rods - not to black - hold the drapes which are Velcro-ed on. Ready to entertain guests. Designer Michael L Hill Sr. The Sherman Home In Del Mar, California.
The little things
Designer Jeannie William`s cooked up this peaceful room for a master bathroom in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The mirror and florals gave the appearance of space and light. The swags were a finishing touch.
Gift wrapped
A drapery workroom created these soft Roman treatments from bed sheets. No one would ever know unless I told them. The materials for the "pole wrap swag" were un-sewn drapery fabric that pooled on the floor.
Sheered to a pole
Adel Faba created this design from blue prints I drafted for another client. An Asian family in San Diego, California had to have it, so we made it for them. It is simple, elegant, and pure. The furniture is lacquer and the fabric satin. Not expensive but satisfying.
Sash and pools
Designer Bruce DeArmond created this sash from the workroom of Tony Levas. The drapes sheer on the 2 inch pole and puddle on the ground. The fabric is lustrous and super soft which is why it drapes so well.
